With the backdrop of the famous Cliffs of Dover, the model as a British officer, reveals the anxiety of facing the danger of going to war as he holds the heroine close for reassurance. In painting these illustrations I studied the posters and illustrations by masters like Howard Pyle and Norman Rockwell, who, by the way, also worked from black and white photographs as well as from life.
