Bantam's excellent Art Director (in the early 1980's), Len Leone, gave me this assignment intending to have three different covers for the same book. Instead of using all three, however, only this one was printed. I used two of the best models at the time, Chad Deal and Kim Neblit, on all three paintings. Here Chad superbly expresses the emotion of the hero’s impending loss of this most important person to him.
