"Crisis At Valcour"- The selling point of these romance novels are often the sexy, lustful illustrations on the cover, such as this one.  I included the two sisters, who together with the heroine, have vowed to save their island home after the Civil War.  Painting them in the shade of a willow tree provides a contrast to the foreground clinch, it serves as a stepping device to the lit up area behind them. Shown there is one of the heroes and raging fires in the fields, the smoke billows towards the plantation house, more easily seen on the painting than the cover proof.
